(30852) Debye is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 2, 1991 by the German astronomers Freimut Börngen and Lutz D. Schmadel at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .
The asteroid was named on April 27, 2002 after the Dutch physicist and chemist Peter Debye (1884–1966), who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1936 .
