(346886) Middelburg is an asteroid of the main inner belt . It was discovered by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst on November 15, 1999 at the Royal Observatory of Belgium ( IAU code 012) in Uccle .
The asteroid belongs to the Hungaria group . The 9: 2 orbital resonance with the planet Jupiter is characteristic of this group . The namesake for the Hungaria group is the asteroid (434) Hungaria . The solar orbit of (346886) Middelburg is steeply inclined at more than 19 ° to the ecliptic of the solar system , another characteristic of Hungaria asteroids.
(346886) Middelburg was named after the Dutch city of Middelburg on January 12, 2017 .
