(4553) Doncampbell is an asteroid of the main belt , on 15 September 1982 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County was discovered.
The asteroid is named after the Australian planetologist and radio astronomer Donald B. Campbell , who has been professor of astronomy at Cornell University since 1987 , having previously headed the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico for seven years .
