(5518) Mariobotta is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on December 30, 1989 by the German amateur astronomer Johann M. Baur at the Osservatorio di Chions ( IAU code 567) in Chions in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region .

The asteroid was named after the Swiss architect and professor of architecture Mario Botta (* 1943), whose designs are influenced by his meetings with Le Corbusier and Louis I. Kahn and who is considered the most important representative of the "Ticino School".
