(6581) Sobers is an asteroid of the main belt . It was discovered on September 22, 1981 by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos at the Kleť Observatory ( IAU code 046) near Český Krumlov .

The asteroid was named after the former Barbados cricketer Garfield Sobers (* 1936) , who played for the West Indies team and was voted one of the top five cricketers of the 20th century in 2000.
