(6594) Tasman is an asteroid of the main belt . It was discovered on June 25, 1987 by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos at the Kleť Observatory ( IAU code 046) near Český Krumlov .

The asteroid was named after the Dutch navigator and explorer Abel Tasman (1603-1659), who was the first European to set foot in New Zealand in 1642 and who discovered the Australian island of Tasmania .
