(66652) Borasisi (former name: 1999 RZ253 ) is a trans-Neptunian object in the Kuiper belt .

The asteroid was discovered on September 8, 1999 by a team of astronomers led by Chad Trujillo . A diameter of approx. 166 km is estimated from the absolute brightness.

The name proposed by the explorers was officially adopted in September 2007 . Borasisi is the term for the sun, which is used in the fictional religion of " Bokononismus " in Kurt Vonnegut's novel Katzenwiege (Cat's Cradle) . This makes the asteroid Borasisi the first asteroid in the Kuiper belt that was not named after a real existing mythology .

2003 by astronomers KS Noll and DC Stephens was the discovery of a moon announced the Borasisi km orbits at a distance of only 4660 ± 170th The discovery was made using the infrared - spectrometer of the Hubble Space Telescope . The diameter of the companion is estimated to be around 137 km, which is why Borasisi can be classified as a double asteroid with its almost equally large companion. The moon was given the name Pabu (full name: (66652) I Pabu ) to match the naming of the main body . Pabu as the name for moon also comes from the fictional religion of " Bokononismus ".
