(854) Frostia is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 3 April 1916 by the Russian astronomer Sergei Ivanovich Beliavsky at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in simeiz was discovered.
The asteroid is named after the American astronomer Edwin Brant Frost .
The asteroid has a companion of almost the same size , called S / 2004 (854) 1 , which was discovered in July 2004 by Raoul Behrend , Laurent Bernasconi , Alain Klotz , and Russell I. Durkee by observing the asteroid's light curve . The satellite is approximately 10 kilometers in diameter and orbits (854) Frostia at a distance of 25 kilometers with an orbital period of 1.5713 days. Presumably the two orbit each other in a bound rotation .
