(92) Undina is an asteroid of the main outer belt that was discovered on July 7, 1867 by the German-American astronomer Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters .
The asteroid was named after Undine , a short story by the German poet Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué .
nature
Undina has a light, silicate-containing surface with an albedo of 0.251. Originally classified as a representative of the spectral class X, a more detailed spectral investigation in 2004-2005 indicated that it should rather be classified as an M-asteroid. Signs of a weak spectral band at 9 microns suggest the presence of orthopyroxene associated with an iron or pallasite composition. For (92) Undina a composition similar to the Esquel meteorite was proposed. In addition to (92) Undine, the asteroids (417) Suevia and (1124) Stroobantia with a similar composition were identified.
