(9589) Deridder is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 21 November 1990 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( IAU code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.

The asteroid was named on May 1, 2003 after the Belgian professor of law at the University of Ghent Remi De Ridder (1843–1930), who was appointed to the school commission by the government in 1881 and denounced the monopoly of the clergy in the school system.
