Matthieu Chedid (born December 21, 1971 in Boulogne-Billancourt , Hauts-de-Seine department , France ), also known by his pseudonym -M- , is a French rock singer and guitarist .

Beginnings and personal life

Matthieu Chedid is the son of the French singer Louis Chedid and the grandson of the French poet and author Andrée Chedid , who also wrote lyrics for him. Chedid started making music very early. In 1978 he sang on one of his father's albums with his sister Emile. In the following years he founded several bands, such as Tam Tam (with Mathieu Boogaerts ), Les Bébés fous or Les Poissons rouges . As he got older, he worked alongside Philippe Chatel , Nina Morato , NTM , Sinclair and Billy Ze Kick . In addition, Chedid worked on Faudel 's first album ( Baida ), which was released in 1997.

Chedid is married with one daughter who was born on May 1, 2002.

Career

His first album, Le Baptême , was released in 1997, which he recorded with Phillippe Zdar . It contains, among other things, the song Machistador , which became a great success. At the 1998 Francofolies de la Rochelle , he received the Canadian Félix Leclerc Prize from a foundation that promotes young and talented singers. His album Je dis aime followed in 1999 , which includes the tracks Je dis aime and Bonito , written by his grandmother Andrée Chedid . For this album he received two prizes at the French music award Victoires de la Musique in 2000 . The album was followed by a tour in which Matthieu Chedid had, among other things, an appearance at the Olympia in Paris , which was released on a DVD entitled Le tour de -M- . Chedid also composed an album by Vanessa Paradis .

Inspired by the birth of his daughter, Chedid started his third album Qui de nous deux? which appeared in November 2003. He also composed the soundtracks for the films Peau d'ange and Les Triplettes de Belleville . As part of another tour, he took part in the Francofolies de Montréal in 2004 . The tour ended with Chedid's appearance at the Olympia in Paris, alongside the French singer Cali .

Louis Chedid and Pierre-Dominique Burgaud wrote a musical called Le Soldat rose in 2006 , in which Matthieu Chedid played the role of a toy soldier who is sad because he was separated from his fiancée. In February 2007 he received a César for best film music for his soundtrack to the film Ne le dis à personne . In the same year he also accompanied Vanessa Paradis on her tour and produced her new album. His fifth album Mister Mystère , released in 2009, was a collaboration with Brigitte Fontaine . In 2010 he played a decisive role on the album Jamais Seul by Johnny Hallyday , which, however, was not a great success. He also assisted his father with his album.

His sixth album Îl was released in 2012.
