1-chloropropane is an organic-chemical compound from the group of chlorinated hydrocarbons (CHC).

Extraction and presentation

1-chloropropane can be obtained by chlorination of propane , with 2-chloropropane also being formed to a large extent, depending on the temperature . The representation is also possible through the action of phosphorus trichloride , phosphorus pentachloride or thionyl chloride on 1-propanol .

properties

1-chloropropane is a very volatile, colorless liquid with a chloroform-like odor. In contrast to many haloalkanes, it has a lower density than water.

use

1-chloropropane is used as an alkylating agent e.g. B. used in Friedel-Crafts reactions and for the production of Grignard compounds and other organometallic compounds.
