1-hexyne is a chemical compound from the alkynes group and a constitutional isomer to 2-hexyne and 3-hexyne . It has the basic structure of n-hexane with a CC triple bond in the 1-position.

Extraction and presentation

1-Hexyne can be obtained by reacting 1-hexene with bromine and then reacting the resulting 1,2-dibromohexane with sodium amide . The reaction of sodium acetylide with 1-bromobutane also gives 1-hexyne.

properties

1-Hexyne is a very volatile, highly flammable, colorless liquid at room temperature that boils at 71–72 ° C.

safety instructions

The vapors of 1-hexyne and air form an explosive mixture ( flash point −20 ° C, ignition temperature 263 ° C). Explosive salts are formed with heavy metal ions.
