action
The freight forwarder Castigliano hires Steiner to drive a new truck with a secret cargo through the Sahara . Steiner is new to the company and the other employees eyed him suspiciously. In the evening Steiner goes out with Rocco, Marec and some colleagues. The next morning the truck disappeared. Castigliano rages and orders Marec to retrieve the truck that was stolen by Rocco. But he is on the way to the border with his girlfriend Pepa. A wild chase through deserts and impassable areas begins.
Marec is on the road with Steiner. When crossing a state it turns out that Steiner is searched under the name Frocht; he was the leader of a mercenary force in a coup. Rocco can depend on Marec several times. Mitch always has to help Marec out. After Rocco's truck stopped due to a defect, it traps Marec and Steiner. At gunpoint, Rocco forces his defective truck to be exchanged for the roadworthy one from Marec. Steiner wants to defend himself against it and suffers a shot through the leg. Rocco leaves Marec and Steiner in the desert. Rocco plans to sell the cargo to a fence for $ 100,000.
Marec and Steiner only managed to get to the next town with great effort. By chance, Marec meets Rocco in a brothel and a wild fight ensues between them. When they are too weak to fight any more, Rocco admits that he showed up at the agreed meeting point with the fence. However, the fence was not present. When he returned to the hotel, the truck with his girlfriend Pepa had disappeared.

Reviews
The lexicon of international films found: "An amusing adventure film that surpasses the majority of the genre with its brilliant production and excellent leading actor ."
Prisma wrote: “The exciting and amusing adventure flick by Henri Verneuil is a successful trivial form of Henri-Georges Clouzot's classic Wages of Fear . In addition to the excellent staging, it features France's top stars Jean-Paul Belmondo and Lino Ventura, who met infront of the camera for the second and last timeafter The Panther is Hounded (1959) and a very special competition in front of the breathtaking backdrop of Africa deliver. Exciting: Andréa Parisy as Pepa. "
The Protestant film observer finds words of praise and criticism : “An adventure film as it stands in the book about a breathtaking truck chase in North Africa in which a thief is being pursued with smuggled goods. Because of the unreflective portrayal of the life of notorious lawbreakers, we cannot say yes to this technically and theatrically brilliant work. "
