action
Mike, who has just turned 18, has locked himself in his room. His parents Susanne and Thomas and his sister Miriam are at a loss because of his behavior. Often they stand in front of his room door. However, since Mike is of legal age and has voluntarily decided not to take part in life outside his room, there is no way for his family to force him to behave differently. However, the viewer is repeatedly catapulted into scenes that show various attempts by the family members to get close to Mike or to change his mind. The only form of communication between the occupant of the room and the outside world apparently only takes place via slips of paper with short notes, which are exchanged under the door. On them trivial is often communicated through rain events, such as May 3, 10:53: downpour in Hannover . Describing 1000 types of rain is about how the family structure can change through the decision of a single family member and what long-term effects this extreme behavior has. Ultimately, the family fails to find a satisfactory solution to the conflict and radically decides to deal with Mike's self-isolation. The last message that Miriam slides under the door for her brother is: Dear Mike, Rain that falls on your skin is the most beautiful rain.

reception
criticism
Britta Schmeis writes at epd Film: "Her first feature-length film succeeds with reduced dialogues, a great camera, impressive music (Volker Bertelmann aka Hauschka) and great actors".
“What begins as a quietly told family drama turns into an almost hysterical film in which first the humor and then the characters' intellects fall by the wayside. Despite strong actors and a congenial camera, an overly clear, symbolic staging strains the interest in perceiving nuances and feeling inner distress. "
