reception

In Die ZEIT , Carolin Ströbele praised the "densely narrated and grandiose episodes". The series not only offers “brilliant storytelling”, but is also “a very exciting history lesson from the recent Italian past.” For example, 1992 shows “how the smashing of felt and corruption in Italy did not lead to a more transparent, fairer society, but rather paved the way to the Berlusconi system . "

In the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Stefan Ulrich writes that the producers have succeeded in "uncovering the mechanisms of power, seduction and corruption in Italy that are still at work today". 1992 abstained from political judgments. Ulrich criticizes, however, that the historical facts are "often assumed rather than explained", which can be confusing, especially for non-Italian viewers. Overall, Ulrich rates the series as "too complex".

In the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Ursula Scheer emphasizes the acting presence of Guido Caprino. However, she criticizes that “the connections between the characters” are “often deliberately constructed”. The series is “far removed” from the “force of ' Gomorrhas '”. Scheer praised the fact that 1992 did not judge or point out a way out, but only stated: "To face yourself in this way without clarifying your own history, that is great." The result is "a picture of how the big picture is slipping."
