2-methylthiophene is a chemical compound from the group of thiophene - derivatives . It can be obtained either from 2-methylfuran or by reacting hydrogen chloride and formaldehyde with thiophene and then reducing it.

use

2-methylthiophene was used as a flavoring for food, although its use was banned by an EU regulation from 2014.
