Western Mediterranean

  • The Carthaginian general Hamilkar Barkas begins with the expansion of the Carthaginian territory on the Iberian Peninsula in order to use the mineral resources there to rehabilitate the economy of Carthage, which was shattered by the First Punic War .
  • Carthage calls on Rome to return the occupied islands of Corsica and Sardinia . When another war threatens, Carthage, still weakened by the last war and the subsequent mercenary uprising, has to agree to the transfer of the two islands.
  • Hieron II of Syracuse visits Rome.
