Western Mediterranean
- During the First Punic War , the Romans conquer the Carthaginian base of Eryx in western Sicily. With that the Carthaginians only hold Drepanum and Lilybaeum.
- Carthaginian victory at Drepana over the Roman fleet under Publius Claudius Pulcher . After the defeat, Aulus Atilius Caiatinus is appointed dictator, while Publius Claudius Pulcher is sentenced to a fine for ignoring an unfavorable omen before the battle. Since the Romans also lose numerous ships in a storm, they remain without a fleet for the next seven years.
Eastern Mediterranean
- Alexander of Corinth , son of Kraterus , rises against the Macedonian king Antigonus II Gonatas .
Empire of China
- Zhuangxiang, father of the future emperor Qin Shihuangdi , becomes ruler in the state of Qin , which has in fact achieved supremacy in China. In the same year Hui, the last pretender of the powerless Zhou dynasty , whose capital Luoyang as early as 256 BC, is defeated. . BC was conquered by Qin.
