Eastern Mediterranean
- May: Aratos of Sicyon drives the tyrant Nicocles out of his city and calls back his own followers from exile, who were driven out by Nicocles. Aratos advocates a policy directed against Antigonos II Gonatas of Macedonia and joins the Achaean League . Antigonos tries in vain to bribe Aratos, who instead gives the money to his citizens.
- Aristodemus, the tyrant of Megalopolis , is overthrown and killed. The city is soon attacked in vain by Sparta . The Achaean League and the Arcadians join forces against Sparta and defeat the Spartans at Mantineia .
Western Mediterranean
- Summer - The First Punic War comes to the Battle of Panormus (today: Palermo ): The Romans under L. Caecilius Metellus defeat the Carthaginians under Hasdrubal . Carthage recaptures Agrigento , but is trapped in its fortress Lilybaeum on the western tip of Sicily.
- The Carthaginians again ask for peace and send the consul Marcus Atilius Regulus, captured near Tunis, to Rome. But he swears his compatriots to continue the war and voluntarily goes back to Carthage, where he is tortured to death.

- Completion of the irrigation system of Dujiangyan in Chengdu , by the State Qin can increase its income.
