Roman Empire

  • February 5 : The Roman Senate honors Emperor Augustus with the title pater patriae ("Father of the Fatherland").
  • Augustus banishes his daughter Julia to the island of Pandateria because of her alleged immoral conduct , where she has to live in strict asceticism. Her mother accompanies her into exile . Her marriage to Tiberius , who tried in vain to stand up for her, ends in divorce.
  • The Lex Fufia Caninia stipulates what proportion of their slaves Roman citizens may release.
