Imola 300 km race in 1971

The 300 km race of Imola 1971 , also called Coppa di Shell Imola , took place on May 2nd of this year at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari . The race was the first race of the Interseries this year.

The race

The Interserie was a racing series for sports cars that was established in 1970 as a European variant of the North American CanAm series. The first race took place on June 28, 1970 at the Norisring , Nuremberg . The winner of this race and later overall winner of the 1970 season was the German Jürgen Neuhaus in a Porsche 917K .

The racing cars on vehicles from FIA groups 5 , 6 and 7. In Imola, Scuderia Ferrari also reported a racing car in the first races of the 1971 season . Arturo Merzario won in a Ferrari 512M ahead of the Briton Chris Craft , who drove a McLaren M8 . How popular these races were at the beginning of the series can also be judged by the fact that 70,000 spectators attended the race.

In September, another was held in Imola scoring run to the championship at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari instead. Brian Redman won this race on a BRM P167 .
