The 1970 Interserie was the first season of this championship. It started on June 28th and ended on October 11th.

In 1969 the decision was made in Europe to establish a championship like the North American Can-Am series . The first season of this championship took place in 1970, written out for vehicles that corresponded to the technical regulations of the 1970 World Sports Car Championship .

Six races were driven, with distances between 50 and 300 miles. The shortest race was Croft's 50-mile race , which lasted just under 30 minutes and ended with the victory of Helmut Kelleners in a March 707 . The longest race distance at the end of the season in Hockenheim was a 300-mile distance, which corresponded to a driving time of the winner of 2: 42: 12.600 hours. With second place, Jürgen Neuhaus secured the first driver's title of the Interseries in the Porsche 917K .
