The 200-mile race in Nuremberg 1970 , also 200 miles from Nuremberg, International ADAC Norisring Race Meeting, Nuremberg , took place on June 28 at the Norisring and was the first race in the history of the Interserie .

The race

With the race on parts of the former Nazi party rally grounds , the Interserie started in June 1970 as the European counterpart to the North American Can-Am series . A key feature of the series was that racing cars were used that were no longer allowed to start in other sports car series. For the series, the Group 7 rules applied from the FIA regulations of the FIA , the very little restrictions on innovations had. These rules allowed practically unlimited possibilities to experiment with displacement, power, turbochargers and the downforce of the car.

60,000 spectators came to the opening race, which consisted of two races. For the overall victory there was a duel between Jürgen Neuhaus and Gijs van Lennep , who both competed with a Porsche 917K . One run each went to one of the two drivers. Adding the two runs, Neuhaus had a lead of 13 seconds over his rival.
