300 km race from Zolder 1971

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zolder 300 km race in 1971 , also the Kent 300 Texaco Trophy, Coupe de Belgique, Zolder , took place on June 6th at the Circuit Zolder and was the second race of the Interseries of that year.

The race

The second race of the Interserie in 1970 also saw a works team report. While it was Scuderia Ferrari ( Arturo Merzario won the race in a Ferrari 512M ) at the season opening race in Imola that reported a car, in Zolder Autodelta , the Alfa Romeo works team , came to the race with two cars. The Alfa Romeo T33 / 3 were driven by Toine Hezemans and Rolf Stommelen . Another works car was the BRM P167 from Pedro Rodríguez , which could not start after a cylinder damage in practice. Three Porsche 917 Spyder were registered for last year's champions Jürgen Neuhaus , Leo Kinnunen and Michel Weber .

The race was held in two races. In the first race, Peter Gethin won the McLaren M8E ahead of Rolf Stommelen in the Alfa Romeo and Leo Kinnunen in the Porsche. The decision was made in the second run. With four laps to go, Stommelen's Alfa Romeo had an engine failure, which meant that Peter Gethin won the overall standings with second place.
