The 8th Asian Women's Soccer Championship was held in Japan from May 26th to June 8th, 1991 . The game was played in Fukuoka . China won for the third time in a row after beating Japan 5-0 . This tournament was also the qualification for the first ever women's soccer world championship in 1991 .

mode

There were no qualifiers. All nine registered teams took part directly in the tournament and were divided into a group of four and a group of five. Within the preliminary round groups, each team plays each other once. The group winners and runners-up reach the semi-finals. The semi-final winners reach the final, the semi-final losers play for third place.
