ARMS is a Fighting - video game from Nintendo . The game was released on June 16, 2017 for the Nintendo Switch . It received mostly good reviews and has sold over a million times within two weeks.
Gameplay
ARMS is a 3-D fighting game in which up to 4 players fight each other in different stages. What is special about ARMS are the stretchable arms of the fighters, with which you can hit opponents that are far away.
The game contains 15 different playable characters that have unique skills. Some characters were only added through download extensions after they were released . Each arm of a fighter has different abilities and can be exchanged and combined with other arms as desired.
In ARMS you fight with up to 4 players in teams or everyone against everyone. The game has various " mini-game modes" such as basketball or volleyball. In online mode you can play against other players online in randomly selected modes. In Grand Prix mode you play alone against the other characters in different degrees of difficulty.

ARMS was developed by Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development , EPD for short, for the Nintendo Switch .
In the early stages of development of ARMS, well-known characters from Nintendo game brands were also experimented with. Since the extendable arms, which are an important basic idea of the game, do not fit characters like Mario and Link , it was decided to create completely new characters instead.
The game was first featured in the Nintendo Switch announcement trailer . However, it wasn't officially announced and titled until the Nintendo Switch presentation on January 13, 2017. On April 12, 2017, June 16, 2017 was named as the release date in a Nintendo Direct .
On May 17, 2017, Nintendo announced in a trailer that a preview of the game would take place under the name "Global Testpunch". This demo was playable from May 26th to 28th and June 2nd to 4th at certain times. After the game was released, another “Global Testpunch” took place from August 25th to 27th, 2017. A third round of the “Global Testpunch” took place from March 31 to April 3, 2018.

ARMS received mostly good reviews. For example, the game achieved a Metascore of 77 on Metacritic and an average rating of 77.32% on GameRankings .
ARMS was praised primarily for the innovative new game idea and the graphic style. The division of the control into motion control and classic with the gamepad was also praised. Above all, the low content was criticized. So there were only 10 characters and a single player mode available at launch.

The gameplay mechanics are very intuitive thanks to the movement controls and I quickly found my way around, even after several days of breaks between games. Sales figures
In the first two weeks after publication, ARMS was able to sell over 1 million times. In Japan, the game was number one on the sales charts for two weeks. The game sold 100,000 times in Japan in the first week.
By September 30, 2018, the game had sold 2.1 million times.
