history

The 1972 Olympic Games took place in Munich and included women's volleyball. Renate Hackl saw these games and looked for and found nine women who were willing to practice this sport. A separate section was founded at ASKÖ Linz Steg. A men's team was formed, which her husband Fritz Hackl looked after. At the same time, the sports and math teacher Peter Gruber from the BG / BRG Linz-Urfahr (today GEORG VON PEUERBACH-GYMNASIUM) trained young girls for the 1st Bundesliga championships in Innsbruck, where the club won the bronze medal. In 1979 Gruber and Hackl decided to promote volleyball in Linz under a sporting direction.
