The AXA Pro-Cycling Team was a Dutch cycling team in the GS II category and part of the UCI Continental Teams , which existed from 1999 to 2005 and was merged into the Ubbink-Syntec Cycling Team .

history

The team was founded in 1999 as AXA - VVZ Professional Cycling Team and classified in the GS II category and began with Gerry van Gerwen as team manager and Ton Welling and D. van der Meiden as sporting directors. The team consisted of 16 Dutch drivers. The team size ranged between 16 drivers at the beginning and 13 drivers in the 2001 and 2005 seasons. During its existence, only three professionals who did not come from the Netherlands drove for the team. These were the Estonian Peep Mikli , the Australian Russel van Hout and the Austrian Matthias Schröger, all of whom were only with the team for one season. A total of 46 different drivers drove for the team, with only Robert Slippens and Danny Stam participating in all seasons and 24 of the drivers only driving for the team during one season. For the 2001 season Ton Welling went from sporting director to team manager, which Welling remained until the team was dissolved, and Jan van Dam took over Wellings' former position, while D. van der Meiden left. For the 2003 season, John the Braber , who had driven for the team from 1999 to 2002, and Wim van Doorn became the sporting directors, replacing Jan van Dam. The name changed to AXA Cycling Team for the first time . For the 2004 season, Wim van Doorn retired as sporting director, with John den Braber now holding the position alone. After the UCI ProTour was introduced for the 2005 season , the team was classified at the level of the UCI Continental Teams and the name was changed to AXA Pro-Cycling Team . After the 2005 season the team was finally disbanded, but the team manager, the sports director and most of the riders were transferred to the Ubbink-Syntec Cycling Team .
