A Christmas Prince is a 2017 American romantic comedy directed by Alex Zamm. The film was released worldwide on November 17, 2017 on Netflix .

action

Shortly before Christmas, the young American journalist Amber Moore is sent to the land of Aldovia to cover a press conference of Prince Richard, who will ascend to the throne after the recent death of his father. Richard has been portrayed in the press as an irresponsible playboy, and it is also rumored that he plans to abdicate. Amber hopes her work in Aldovia will result in a great hiatus and she goes to the royal family palace for the press conference but the prince does not show up. Instead of leaving with the press pack, Amber decides to snoop around the palace, mistaken for the young Princess Emily's new American tutor, Martha Anderson. Amber plays along and takes on Martha's identity to investigate rumors of the abdication.

Emily, who suffers from spina bifida , tries to get Amber to quit but warms up after Amber treats her more like a normal schoolgirl than an invalid. As Emily's tutor, Amber meets the royal family, including Richard, who realizes it is the man she previously insulted at the Aldovian airport after stealing the taxi she was about to get into. Amber is attracted to Richard after learning that, contrary to rumors, he is a compassionate and responsible man when in fact he is unwilling to take the throne. During this time, Amber learns from Emily that Richard's schemer and jealous cousin Simon is next on the throne that he desires. Amber also meets Richard's beautiful ex-girlfriend, Sophia, who Richard suspects was only interested in him for his future title.

Emily learns the truth about Bernstein's identity, but agrees to keep it a secret while Amber writes a story that exposes Prince Richard for the good man he is. Amber follows Richard on horseback through the forest in search of her story, but her horse throws her off and she is almost attacked by a wolf, only to be rescued by the prince. Richard takes Amber to his father's old hunting lodge, where he reveals that after telling his father he would renounce the throne, they had an argument and that the king died soon after. Richard then shows Amber a mysterious poem written by his father, and the two almost kiss but are interrupted by the sound of horses neighing. After Richard leaves to check on the animals, Amber searches the late king's desk and discovers a hidden compartment full of documents showing that the prince has been secretly adopted. She hides the documents and brings them back to the palace.

Amber is reluctant to reveal the truth as it would deeply hurt Richard, but decides to tell him while taking a walk. Richard interrupts her confession with a kiss and Amber realizes that she is in love with him. Simultaneously, a suspicious Sophia and Simon search Bernstein's room and discover their true identity and Richard's adoption certificate. At the Christmas Eve Ball, as Richard prepares for the coronation, Sophia reveals his adoption certificate and Bernstein's true identity. Simon asserts himself next on the throne when Richard storms off, rejecting a repentant Amber's apology, and she leaves the palace in tears. The Queen later reveals to Richard that she adopted him after she was told she couldn't have children and that she regretted not telling him sooner, but that she and the king had him as their real son looked at. Richard forgives his mother for her deception and promises not to let Simon win the throne so easily.

Simon marries Sophia, but learns that he cannot be crowned until the Queen is available to lead the ceremony. Meanwhile, Amber suspects that she can prove Richard is the rightful king based on clues from his father's poem. She is allowed back into the palace and finds a secret proclamation in a Christmas ornament from the late king, declaring Richard the rightful heir. Amber takes the document to the official chamber where Simon will be crowned and arrives in time for Richard to be crowned instead. After the ceremony, she quietly leaves Aldovia.

At home, Amber magazine refuses to publish its story about Richard and calls it a "puff piece". Angry, she leaves the magazine and decides to blog about the real Richard instead. Her blog becomes popular and eventually gets the attention of Richard himself. Amber is spending New Year's Eve at her father's New York diner when Richard surprises her. He tells Amber that he is really in love with her.
