List of train stations in Denmark |
Aarhus Hovedbanegård ( Aarhus H for short ) is the main train station in the Danish city of Aarhus . It is the second most important train station in the country after Københavns Hovedbanegård and is used by around 6.3 million travelers annually.
location
The station is south of the city center between the districts of Midtbyen and Frederiksbjerg . In the direction of the city, the station is at Banegårdspladsen and is connected to the Bruuns Galleri shopping center .
history
The first station in Aarhus was built in 1862 by the company Peto, Brassey and Betts on the Randers – Aarhus railway line and was located near Ryesgade. As early as 1884 a larger new building in the neo-renaissance style was built . The architects Thomas Arboe and William August Thulstrup were probably based on the architecture of Bonn's main train station .
This station too became too small for the rapidly developing city, which is why the Danish State Railways had the current building erected as part of a redesign of the station district. The construction of the station planned by Knud Tanggaard Seest and A. Höeg-Hansen began in 1927 and was opened in 1929.
traffic
It is a through station with four platforms. It is located on Østjyske længdebane and was the terminus of the Grenaabanen and Odderbanen , which are now connected ( Aarhus Nærbane ). There is a direct connection to and from Hamburg twice a day , while Aalborg and Copenhagen are connected in the Danish long-distance traffic. Regional connections exist to the rest of Jutland , for example to Herning / Skjern and Struer . The Aarhus Letbane serves Odder and Grenaa.
Furnishing
In addition to a travel center and toilets, the station has a fast-food restaurant and small shops. There is a large shopping center in the immediate vicinity.
