Abamectin is a natural fermentation product from Streptomyces avermitilis .

Chemical properties

Abamectin consists of two very similar molecules (at least 80% avermectin B 1a and not more than 20% avermectin B 1b ), both of which belong to the avermectin group . Abamectin is largely insoluble in water and is destroyed by acids or ultraviolet radiation . By hydrogenating abamectin, the insecticidal, acaricidal and nematicidal active ingredient ivermectin is obtained.

use

Plant protection

Abamectin is used to control plant pests because of its acaricidal and insecticidal effects (action against mites and insects).

Abamectin is approved as an active ingredient in pesticides in many EU countries, including Germany and Austria, as well as Switzerland.

Veterinary medicine

Abamectin is also effective against roundworms ( nematodes ) and is used in veterinary medicine against worms and various ectoparasites of cattle. No finished medicinal products are permitted in German-speaking countries.
