Acaricide

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Acaricides are pesticides or biocides used to control mites and ticks . Acaricides also often have insecticidal effects, especially on biting insects .

The main areas of application are the use against spider mites in fruit , viticulture and horticulture . Acaricides are also used to control dust mites . In addition, acaricides are used in veterinary medicine to control ticks on pets. Depending on the active ingredient, these can be used as a spot-on , as a medical collar or in tablet form.

In beekeeping , acaricides are the oldest method of treating bees against parasitic varroosis . Acaricides leave residues in honey and wax. Over time, varroa mites have developed resistance to acaricides, which are therefore no longer approved for the treatment of varroosis in many countries.
