Tetradifon is an active ingredient for plant protection and a chemical compound from the group of diphenyls and sulfones .

Extraction and presentation

Tetradifon can be obtained by reacting 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene with chlorosulfonic acid and then with chlorobenzene or by reacting Tetrasul with hydrogen peroxide .

properties

Tetradifon is a white, odorless, flammable, non-volatile solid. It is stable to hydrolysis in alkaline and acidic solutions. The technical product consists of more than 94% tetradifon with impurities of 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T) and polychlorinated dibenzodioxins, but not 2,3,7,8-TCDD .

use

Tetradifon is used as an acaricide . It is toxic to mite eggs and non-adult mites. The effect is based on the inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation . It is used in horticulture, including in hobby greenhouses, especially for fruit, vegetables, ornamental plants, hops, cotton and sugar cane, and in forestry.

Admission

The connection was approved between 1971 and 1985 in the FRG and until 1992 in the GDR.

Tetradifon is not on the list of active ingredients for pesticides permitted in the European Union. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, no pesticides with this active ingredient are permitted.
