Before the 2015 territorial reform, Abani had an area of 43.67 km². Now there are 43.01 km². The boundary lines were only changed minimally. The Suco forms the southern tip of Oe-Cusse Ambeno. In the east and south it borders on the Indonesian West Timor . In the west it borders on the Suco Malelat and in the north lies the administrative office of Oesilo with its Suco Usitaqueno . The northwest corner of Abani still touches the Suco Banafi ( Nitibe administrative office ). On the border with Malelat, the chain of Monte Puas runs from southwest to northeast . Its summit with 1121  m is in Abani. Its highest peak with 1100  m is in Abani. The highest point of Oe-Cusse Ambeno, the Bisae Súnan, lies at 1560  m on the southwest tip of Passabe . Where the Passover River flows into Indonesia, the land in the east sinks to 505  m . The Suco Haemnanu was attached to the northern Abani before 2003. The border ran along the Passabe River and between the places Oelete and Fatuessu .

Most of the Sucos settlements are on the Rio Passabe , which has its source in Abani and flows east to Indonesia. Passabe , the main town of the administrative office, is also located here . Other villages in Abani are south of the river Nunkolo , Fot , Ato , Watu and Fofe . To the north of the river lie the villages of Kuef , Nuahake , Nuakbat , Noenim , Usafin , Huaen , Tabe , Fatuessu ( Fauteso ), Oelete , Oebu and Fuames . From Passabe two streets lead parallel north to the administrative office of Oesilo. The western road branches off towards the village of Nitibe, the eastern road continues to Oesilio. On the eastern road are the villages Hueleo , Naetuna ( Naituna ) and Oelajaob , on the western villages Meia ( Meta ) and slightly west of it Oelangkai . Around the settlement center around Passabe there are two primary schools, a preparatory school for secondary school ( Escola Pre-Secundaria Passabe ), a community health center and an expanded helipad.

In the Suco are the three Aldeias Haemnanu ( Haumnani ), Naetuna and Passabe .

history

In 1999, due to the East Timor independence referendum in Abani, acts of violence were committed by the pro-Indonesian militia Sakunar ( Scorpio ). On September 10th, 47 people were murdered in a massacre in Passabe .

Due to the claims of the villages on both sides of the border, there is a dispute over the membership of the so-called Área Cruz, northeast of the Bisae Súnan, between East Timor and Indonesia. The dispute has escalated again and again since the 1960s.

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , Baptista da Cunha was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Gabriel Neka .
