Abdisalam Abdulkadir Ibrahim (born May 1, 1991 in Mogadishu ) is a Norwegian football player of Somali origin who is currently under contract with the Norwegian club Vålerenga Oslo . He was the first player with Somali roots to play in the Premier League .

Career

Born in Mogadishu , he moved to Norway with his family in 1998 . There he played in the youth teams of Øyer-Tretten IF and Lørenskog IF until he joined Fjellhamar FK in 2005 , where he made his debut in the men's team in 2006 at the age of 15.

At the beginning of 2007 he signed a three-year contract for the youth academy of the English top club Manchester City , valid from July 1, 2007. In spring 2008, he and his team won the FA Youth Cup , which was 4-2 after a round trip prevailed against Chelsea .

His first professional game with the Citizens he completed on January 24, 2010 in the FA Cup game against Scunthorpe United . He also sat on the bench in the 3-1 loss to rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford in the League Cup and in the win against Portsmouth on January 31. On February 21, he finally made his Premier League debut in a 0-0 draw against Liverpool . On April 7, 2010, he and his club agreed on a new contract that ran until 2014.

In January 2011 Ibrahim was loaned to Scunthorpe United for a month , but after the month the loan period was extended until the end of the season. For Scunthorpe, he played eleven games without any scoring.

For the 2011/12 season Ibrahim was loaned to NEC Nijmegen . On December 3, he scored his first professional goal in a 3-3 draw against FC Groningen . Unsatisfied with his reserve role at NEC, Ibrahim and the two clubs agreed in late March that he would return straight to Manchester City.

For the 2012/13 season Ibrahim moved to Strømsgodset IF on loan to his home country . The loan contract ran until the end of the year. In January 2013 the loan contract was extended for a further six months.

In January 2014 Ibrahim moved to the Greek record champions Olympiacos Piraeus . The midfielder signed a three and a half year contract and was loaned to the Greek first division club Ergotelis for the second half of the season, where he played twelve games by the end of the season. In the 1: 4 defeat against his home club Olympiacos, he scored the only goal of his team.

National team

Ibrahim has played in all Norwegian youth national teams from U-15 to U-19. Although he is still eligible to play for the U-19s, he is already playing for the U-21s. He would still have the opportunity to play for his native Somalia , but if he is nominated he would like to play for Norway . This was confirmed by his national team debut on January 15, 2014 in a 2-1 victory over Moldova .

Play style

Despite his young age, his style of play is compared to that of his former teammate Patrick Vieira .
