Abdo Arbach

Abdo Arbach BC (also Jean-Abdo Arbach ; born June 28, 1952 in Yabroud , Syria ) is Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of Homs .

Priest and teacher

In 1966 Arbach began his training in the seminary and lived in the adjoining monastery . In 1977, he put in the Melkite congregation Ordo Basilianus S. Iohannis Baptistae, Soaritarum Melkitarum (Basilian by St. John the Baptist) the vows from. On December 2, 1979 he was ordained a deacon and was ordained a priest of the Basilians on August 24, 1980 . Archbishop Habib Bacha of Beirut and Jbeil donated the consecration . From 1980 to 1986 he was director and professor for Arabic at the seminary. Several leading functions followed at seminaries and within the religious community. He was the seminar leader of the episcopal seminary of Zahlé and Furzol and studied psychology at the National University in Lebanon . From 1997 to 2004 he was pastor of San Jorge de Córdoba in Argentina, and director of the Order of Basilian. In 2004 he went back and became rector of the Oriental College in the diocese of Zahlé and Furzol , where he taught Arabic, French and Spanish. He conducted retreats , taught the catechism and published articles in various magazines .

Exarch

On October 17, 2006 he was received by Pope Benedict XVI. , with simultaneous appointment as Exarch of Argentina, titular Bishop of Hilta , a titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church . The appointment as titular bishop of Palmyra dei Greco-Melkiti , a Melkite titular bishopric, took place on November 11, 2006. On February 3, 2007, Arbach received from Patriarch Gregory III. Laham and the co- consecrators Abraham Nehmé , Archbishop of Homs , and Georges El-Murr , Archbishop of Petra and Philadelphia , the episcopal ordination .

In this capacity he organized the 7th Congress for the Melkite bishops and priests in South America , which was led by Gregory III. Laham was held in Cordoba from August 30th to September 3rd, 2010. In October 2010 he was a participant in the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for the Middle East in Rome .

On June 23, 2012 Abdo Arbach was appointed Archbishop of the Archeparchy of Homs .
