Career

Started his career at Gambia Ports Authority FC

With the Gambia Ports Authority FC multiple times Gambia Ports Authority FC , the young Dampha started his first appearances in men's football in 2007, having previously played in the club's youth team. At the capital club, which plays in the GFA League First Division , the top division of Gambian football, Dampha was among others on the side of Pa Modou Jagne, who was later also active in Swiss professional football, and drew attention to the position of midfielder. After a passable fourth place in the 2007 game year and the victory in the final of the GFA Cup in 2007 , the men's team was unable to match the successes of the previous year in 2008 and thus had to make its way to the GFA League Second Division , the second highest Gambian Football League, compete.

Change to Algeria

Even before the team could start playing there and start a successful run (champion of the second division: 2009, champion of the first division: 2010), the talented midfielder made his first international transfer in August 2008, which took him to Algeria through a Mauritanian players' agent brought. When the Algerian first division team at the time, where he also received his first professional contract, the young Gambier was used in 18 championship games in the 2008/09 season, in which he scored five goals. During his time in Saida, Dampha was brought to Denmark for trial training sessions in January 2009 at Sandefjord Fotball , where he could not convince. While he was still at the Algerian club, Dampha was directed to Norway by his agent , where he completed several days of trial training at Hønefoss BK in June and July 2009 , where Abdou Darboe and another Gambier are active.

He impressed the coach there because of his performance, which is why the club wanted to sign the then 17-year-old Dampha. However, shortly afterwards a controversy similar to that which had already taken place with the transfer of Mikel John Obi to Chelsea came up. Nevertheless, the team wanted to keep him until the end of the season, which in turn failed because the midfielder already had another offer from the Swiss upper house . The sports director of the Swiss first division club Neuchâtel Xamax had contacted the players' agent Damphas and brought the young player to the Swiss Confederation for a four-day trial training session and a test match against a Swiss second division club .

The time at Neuchâtel Xamax

After brief negotiations, the 1.84 m tall player signed a four-year contract with Neuchâtel Xamax in winter 2009/10. The Gambier finally made his debut in the top Swiss football league on February 6, 2010 in a 0-0 away draw against FC Zurich , when he was used from the start and was replaced by Abdulla Fatadi from the 84th minute of the game . In his second league appearance for Neuchâtel , the then 18-year-old scored the first goal for his new employer on February 21, 2010, when he scored a 1-1 away draw against FC Sion in the 56th minute after preparatory work by Austrian Sanel Kuljić met to compensate; Dampha had only just been substituted on. The agile attacking player scored a goal that was often referred to as a “dream goal” in his fifth league appearance, a 2-3 away defeat against AC Bellinzona , when he scored his team's 2-0 lead in the 33rd minute from the center line. After a total of twelve league appearances and two goals, Dampha ended the season with the team in eighth place in the table.

The 2010/11 season has not been particularly good for the young Gambier so far (as of November 10, 2010). After he had played four games over the full game in eight championship appearances so far, he scored two own goals and was then thrown back from mid-September 2010 due to knee problems that made him miss for almost two months. Even after his return in November 2010, Dampha, who still suffers from knee pain (on the outer ligament), has to slowly find his way back into the game and into the team. His stay at Xamax ended in January 2012, as his contract there lost its validity after Xamax's license had initially been revoked and the club filed for bankruptcy a little later. After six months of unemployment, he was signed by the French first division club AS Nancy in the summer of 2012 .

With the youngsters in the senior national team

Dampha gained his first international experience in 2007 and 2008 when he was called up for the first time in the squad of the Gambian U-17 national team and was used for the team in some international matches, mainly against African representatives. Since 2008, the attacking midfielder has also been part of the U-20 team in his home country , for which he has already gained some international experience. His first call-up to the senior squad of his home country finally followed in 2009 when he made his debut in an (unofficial?) International match.
