Abdul Rashid Kardar
Abdul Rashid Kardar (often as AR Kardar ; born October 2, 1904 in Lahore , † November 22, 1989 in Bombay ) was an Indian film director and actor of the Hindi / Urdu films .
Life
Abdul Rashid Kardar moved to Bombay in 1922 and began his professional career as a poster painter and still photographer with the Kohinoor Film Company and the Sharda Film Company . Failing to gain a foothold in Bombay as an actor or director, he returned to Lahore, the center of the Punjab film industry . With insignificant acting and directing work, he was engaged there from the late 1920s for small film companies. After directing the film adaptation of the Panjab love epic Heer Ranjha (1932), he went to Calcutta , where he worked as a Hindi film director in the sound film studio of the East India Film Company until 1936.
At the end of the 1930s, his successful films Baghban (1938), Thokar (1939), Holi , Pagal and Pooja (both 1940) were made by Ranjit Movietone and National Studios in Bombay . Kardar bought the company CIRCO, with which he had made the Premchand film Swami in 1941 , and founded his own Kardar Prod., The first publication of which was Sharada (1942). The composer Naushad was one of his regular collaborators . Kardar had his greatest success in 1946 with the costume drama Shahjehan and the film star Kundan Lal Saigal in his last role. Set designer MR Achrekar and songwriter Majrooh Sultanpuri each made their first film work in this Kardar production.
With the Raj Kapoor film Dastaan (1950) Kardar began a series of light musicals, including Baap Re Baap (1955) with Kishore Kumar . After an eight-year hiatus, Kardar tried a comeback with Dil Diya Dard Liya in 1966 , but the film was directed mainly by the main actor Dilip Kumar .
