Abramelin was an Australian death metal band from Melbourne , which was founded in 1988 under the name Acheron and disbanded in 2002.

history

The band was founded in 1988 by guitarist David Abbott under the name Acheron. The line-up was completed by singer Simon Dower, guitarist Jason Black, bassist Derek Ackary and drummer Michael Colton. After Black was replaced by Tim Aldridge, a first demo called Eternal Suffering was recorded in 1990. Jason Dutton and Justin Wornes then took over from Colton and Ackary. The EP Deprived of Afterlife was released on the French label Corpse Grinder Records in 1991 . A song from this release was also later heard on the sampler Appointment With Fear . After the EP was released, Dutton left the band, who was replaced by Craig Bailey. Another departure of a band member occurred in 1992 when David Abott left the band and was briefly replaced by Jason Kells ( disembowelment ) before Mark "Shulby" Schuliga took his place. From 1992 to 1994 the band went on tour with Carcass and also held gigs with Morbid Angel and Pungent Stench . 1994 Bailey left the band, whereupon Euan Heriot took over the drums. After that, the band noticed that there was already an American band of the same name , so they renamed themselves Abramelin, after an alchemist from the 14th century (see Abraham von Worms ).

The first release under a new name was on Dark Oceans Productions with the EP Transgression from Acheron , after which Schuliga left the band. The self-titled debut album was released in 1995 via Thrust Records , a sub-label of the Australian label Shock Records . The album includes a cover version of the Dead Can Dance song Cantara . In western Australia and later in other markets, the sound carrier was withdrawn from the market because of its texts that explicitly dealt with violence against children and necrophilia . After the release, Rob Mollica joined the group as the new guitarist. A little later, the drummer Heriot also left the band to devote himself to the two bands Blood Duster and Fracture. Heriot's place was briefly replaced by former Blood Duster drummer Matt Rizzo, before Matt Sanders was added as a replacement. In the meantime, the group held performances in Australia with Cathedral and Paradise Lost in 1996 .

At the end of 1997 Abramelin played on Metal for the Brain and began work on another album. Meanwhile, the debut album was re-released on Repulse Records outside Australia. In Australia itself the re-release took place on Shock Records. In Australia this included the EP Transgression from Acheron as a bonus, but no text book was included to avoid the problems with the original release. In the following years appearances followed. In addition, the next album Deadspeak was recorded. The drums were initially recorded by Sanders, but were later re-recorded with a drum computer . The album was released in mid-2000 at Shock Records, whereupon the band only consisted of Dower as singer and Aldrige on all other instruments. In the same year the band played again on the Metal for the Brain. In 2001 the group went on tour with Cradle of Filth . On this tour, the group consisted of Dower, Aldridge, Rizzo, guitarist Matt Wilcock and bassist Grant Karajic. Then the band broke up. Wilcock joined Steel Affliction, The Berzerker and Akercocke , while Rizzo was back on Blood Duster. During their career the band played with Napalm Death , Deicide and Cannibal Corpse , among others . In 2013, Century Media released the compilation , which contains all publications from the entire creative period of the band, from 1988 to 2002. In addition, 15 previously unpublished songs, live recordings and test recordings were also used.

style

According to Bart Gabriel from voicesfromthedarkside.de , one can clearly notice the differences between the various sound carriers on the compilation Transgressing the Afterlife - The Complete Recordings 1988-2002 . However, the music can always be assigned to Death Metal. In a part of the band music in style of play NUNSLAUGHTER , Cianide and Deceased ... while in another classic death metal like him Mortician and Necrophagia play and in another death metal in the style of US -Bands like Cannibal Corpse and Obituary to be heard. The music is brutal and extreme and of high quality.
