action

While Malcolm struggles with funding his college, Reese begins working as the assistant janitor at his high school. However , he learns from his superior Al that he can only have this job for a limited period for a maximum of 30 days, otherwise the school would not have any money. But in order to be able to work longer, he forges a plan to create such a big mess that would take more than 30 days to clean up. Meanwhile, Malcolm is writing the farewell speech that he has to give to his entire year on the last day of school. Together with his grandmother, who comes with Francis and Piama, Reese develops a kind of bomb with which they want to pollute the school. At the same time, the father of the family, Hal, tries to raise the money he still needs for Malcolm's College and even tries - unsuccessfully - illegally.

Days later, Stevie and Malcolm have an interview together at Malcolm's house with Cedrick Hampton, a computer company representative and long-time friend of Stevie's father. At the end of the conversation, he asks Malcolm if he would start his company on a very good salary. Malcolm wants to say yes, but his mother anticipates him and says thank you. A few minutes later, the entire family wants to drive to school by car. Undetected by the family, Reese stores his bomb made with Ida in the trunk, which he wants to explode at school. But after this goes up completely unexpectedly, the whole family is smeared with dirt all over their bodies. While they clean themselves in the garden, Malcolm messes with his mother because she took away his dream job. But she sticks to her opinion and argues that he has to go to Harvard University in order to suffer enough and never be happy. She says he needs this in order to have enough experience to later become President of the United States , which was her plan from the start.

Later during graduation with all the students and their relatives in the school auditorium, Francis accidentally drops an employee ID card that his father notices. Francis then tells him about his new job, but also asks him not to tell his mother, otherwise they would no longer have an argument. Shortly afterwards, Malcolm had his say in his closing speech, in which he said that you are always accompanied by your family - no matter where you are.

At the end of the episode is shown what the life of the individual main characters looks like three months later: As in the very first episode ( Malcolm, the hero ), the very last episode of the series ends with the song "Better Days (And the Bottom Drops Out)" the band Citizen King . Dewey and Jamie hide in a closet from the angry Lois. Dewey realizes that he and Jamie will have fun from now on. Reese now lives with Craig and is celebrating his birthday with him. Francis still hides from his mother that he has long since found a job and does not tell her on the phone either. When he ends the conversation, he kisses his wife Piama, promises her to be back at five o'clock, and leaves the house. At home in bed at night, Hal is delighted that everything has turned out fine. Lois comes out of the bathroom and shows him a positive pregnancy test, which is why Hal screams loudly. Dressed as a janitor, Reese calls Malcolm in his ex-high school, who is in college and also has to do janitorial work to finance his education, and tells him that he is now the new permanent janitor because his predecessor has been fired. Malcolm reports that he is doing very well, but has to hang up to get to his class in time and starts walking.
