Achim Knecht

Achim Knecht (born August 10, 1957 in Groß-Gerau ) is a Protestant clergyman . Since September 1, 2014, he has held the then newly created office of Protestant city ​​dean in Frankfurt am Main . On January 1, 2015, he also took over the chairmanship of the board of the Evangelical Regional Association Frankfurt am Main. Since January 2019, he has been in charge of the extended Evangelical City Deanery and Evangelical Regional Association of Frankfurt and Offenbach. In June 2019 he was confirmed in office by the delegates of the city synod / regional assembly.

School time and studies

After graduating from the Starkenburg-Gymnasium in Heppenheim (Bergstrasse) , he studied Protestant theology in Bethel and Tübingen from 1976 to 1983 and in July 1983 passed the first theological exam at the examination office of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN).

Scientific activities

Between 2002 and 2010 he worked regularly in the Protestant Theology department of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . Knecht received his doctorate there in December 2008 . From October 2009 to June 2010 Achim Knecht held the project pastoral position for quality assurance in theological training in the pastoral course at the Goethe University in Frankfurt.

Vicar and parish offices

From September 1983 to May 1985 Knecht completed the vicariate , training to become a pastor in Bad Marienberg (Westerwald) . Following the Second Theological Examination in May 1985, he worked from June to December 1985 as part of a special vicariate in the Centro Diaconale of the Evangelical Waldensian Church in Palermo ( Italy ). From 1986 to 1989 Knecht was parish vicar (pastor for employment) in the Kreuzkirche (Frankfurt-Preungesheim) . He shared the pastor's office with his wife Elisabeth Knecht.

From November 1989 he worked, initially again with his wife, in the parish of the Wicherngemeinde in Frankfurt-Praunheim . He worked there until January 2002. Between February 2002 and July 2007 he worked as a pastor in the school service at the Carl-von-Weinberg-Schule , an integrated comprehensive school in Frankfurt-Goldstein , where he taught the subject of Protestant religion . From March 2008 to November 2009 he took on a substitute service in the Evangelical Church Community in Frankfurt-Griesheim . Between July 2010 and August 2014 he held a service contract in the amount of half a pastor's position in the parish of Höchst am Main as part of his pastoral office .

Management duties

In June 1994 Achim Knecht was elected Dean of the Evangelical Dean's Office in Frankfurt Northwest . After the restructuring of the Frankfurt deaneries, Knecht was Dean of the Evangelical deanery in Frankfurt-North from March 1998 to January 2002. He was also a member of the board of the Evangelical Regional Association Frankfurt am Main from 1998 to 2002.

Between July 2010 and December 2013 he was dean of the Frankfurt-Höchst dean's office, and from January 2014 he continued to work as dean for the area of ​​the former Frankfurt-Höchst dean's office in the newly formed Frankfurt-Höchst city dean's office. On July 9th, 2014 Knecht was elected by the Evangelical City Synod as the first city dean of the Evangelical City Deanery Frankfurt am Main.

Memberships / honorary positions

Achim Knecht was called to the Twelfth Church Synod of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN) in spring 2016 . He is chairman of the theological committee of the EKHN Synod. Knecht is also a member of the Römerberg Alliance and represents the Evangelical Church in the Frankfurt Council of Religions. He has also been a member of the Joint Presidium of the Ecumenical Church Congress 2021 in Frankfurt since April 2018 and a member of the Sustainability Advisory Board of Bethmann Bank Frankfurt am Main since December 2018 .

Achim Knecht is married to Pastor Elisabeth Knecht and has three grown children.
