Adam Goswin Glaser
Adam Goswin Glaser (born August 17, 1815 in Dorsten ; † February 24, 1900 in Düsseldorf ) was a German steel and copper engraver from the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Glaser, the son of a craftsman, studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1835 to 1844 after attending Sunday school, where he showed a talent for drawing . There he was one of the first students of Joseph Keller , who founded a well-known copper engraving school at the Düsseldorf Academy and is one of the main players in the association for the dissemination of religious images . He also introduced Glaser to reproducing religious prints in his strict, pure line manner. For the Association for the Dissemination of Religious Images, Glaser created several plates for small-format images of saints , including the motif Maria vom Gute Rat . Glaser stayed in Düsseldorf and married Elisabeth Brackel († 1867) on April 30, 1844. The couple had several children. From 1844 Glaser produced several commissioned works for the art association for the Rhineland and Westphalia . He found great recognition for the engraving The Adoration of the Three Magi after Francesco Francia , completed around 1850 , to which he went to Dresden in 1845 and developed a drawing as a template for the art publisher Ernst Arnold in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister . Orders from other publishers followed, such as the art publisher Otto Joseph Rings in Düsseldorf. Glaser was one of the founding members of the Malkasten artists' association , to which he belonged from 1848 to 1854 and from 1859 to 1870. This association owns a portrait that Joseph Kehren painted of him in 1851. The King of Prussia, who acquired several engravings from him, honored him with the Golden Medal for Art for his work .
