Adam Hamel

Adam Hamel (* in Bahn near Greifenhagen , Pomerania; † August 19, 1620 in Kolberg / Pomerania) was a Lutheran theologian and superintendent of the Kolberg-Cammin monastery ( diocese of Cammin ) in Pomerania.

Live and act

Adam Hamel was born as the son of Pastor Lorenz Hamel in Bahn near Greifenhagen in Pomerania. He studied education in Stargard , Stettin and Greifswald . In 1584 he received his master's degree in Strasbourg .

In the same year Adam Hamel was appointed professor poeseos (grammar) at the University of Greifswald , and in 1586 took over the office of preacher at St. Nikolai Cathedral .

In 1594 he was called to the episcopal court preacher and prepositus in Köslin . He held this office until 1610, even when he was appointed superintendent in 1605 (the term "general superintendent" came up later) of the Kolberg-Cammin monastery ( diocese of Cammin ) in succession to Petrus Edeling . Hamel held the position of superintendent until his death. He was succeeded by Immanuel König .

Emperor Rudolf II raised Hamel with his siblings and descendants to the nobility.

Adam Hamel was first married to Gertrud Runge, the daughter of a professor and pastor from Greifswald, and his second marriage to Margarethe Marci, daughter of the Greifswald pastor Joachim Marci.
