Adelheid Geck

Adelheid Geck (born January 14, 1937 in Berlin ) is a German music teacher , musicologist , composer and professor .

Life

Adelheid Geck was born in Berlin as the daughter of the businessman Karl Werner Geck and his wife, the concert singer Charlotte, née Böttger. In 1943 she was evacuated with her mother and her two sisters to Plau in Mecklenburg , where she spent the first 7 years of school. In 1957 she passed the Abitur at the Goethe-Gymnasium in Berlin-Lichterfelde . She then studied 8 semesters of school music and 4 semesters of composition with Max Baumann at the Berlin University of Music (1963 state examination for artistic teaching at secondary schools, 1966 the 2nd state examination for the office of the student council). She completed her studies in musicology ( Kurt Reinhard , Adam Adrio ) and geography (Georg Jensch, Jürgen Hövermann ) at the Free University of Berlin in 1970 with an examination of Leoš Janáček's folk songs with a doctorate in philosophy .

From 1971 to 1996 she was a lecturer at the Bremen University of Applied Sciences and a musician at the Catholic adult education center “Niels Stensen Haus” of the Hildesheim diocese in Lilienthal- Worphausen . She converted to the Catholic Church with Bishop Friedhelm Hofmann . From 1995 to 2014 she was cantor at the Catholic St. Paulus Church in Plau am See .

Adelheid Geck is co-founder and president of the Max Baumann Society, which was founded in Berlin in 1999 . In 1992 she was co-editor of the Festschrift for Baumann's 75th birthday.
