Adolf (Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld)
Adolf von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (born June 29, 1743 in Ypres , † July 17, 1803 in Barchfeld ) from the House of Hesse was paraged Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld .
Life
Adolf was a son of the paraged Landgrave Wilhelm von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (1692–1761) from his marriage to Charlotte Wilhelmine (1704–1766), daughter of Prince Lebrecht von Anhalt-Bernburg-Hoym . Adolf followed his childless brother Friedrich in 1777 as Landgrave of Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld.
He began his career in the service of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel . Then he was in Dutch service, where he became a colonel in the 3rd Infantry Regiment of Orange-Nassau. In 1773 he switched to Prussian military service and became chief of Fusilier Regiment 55 . He won the favor of Frederick II and was appointed major general on January 16, 1777 . Adolf fought in the War of the Bavarian Succession , was attacked by General Wurmser , and was captured by Austria in 1779 in Habelschwerdt . In 1780 he said goodbye and retired to Barchfeld.
In 1794 he acquired the Nesselröden estate and three years later sold the Wehra estate to the Kassel Oberrentkammer for 24,000 thalers.

Landgrave Adolf married Princess Luise (1752-1805) in Meiningen on October 18, 1781 , daughter of Duke Anton Ulrich von Sachsen-Meiningen from his marriage to Charlotte Amalie von Hessen-Philippsthal . He had the following children with her:
