Adolf Bickel
Adolf Bickel (born March 19, 1875 in Wiesbaden ; † January 21, 1946 in Wangen ) was a German doctor and physiologist . From 1906 to 1940 he worked as a professor for experimental pathological physiology at the University of Berlin .
Life
Adolf Bickel was born in Wiesbaden in 1875 and studied medicine at the Universities of Oxford , Strasbourg , Geneva and the University of Bonn , where he obtained his doctorate in 1898 . During his studies he became a member of the Academic-Musical Association Alt-Straßburg Freiburg (in the Association of Special Houses ). After working as an assistant in Strasbourg , Göttingen and Berlin he was in 1901 at the University of Göttingen for the Department of Internal Medicine habilitation .
From 1904 to 1932 he acted as head of the experimental biological department at the Institute for Pathology at the Berlin Charité and from 1906 to 1940 as associate professor for experimental pathological physiology at the University of Berlin . This made him the first professor in Germany to teach the field of pathophysiology .
Adolf Bickel died in 1946 in Wangen on Lake Constance. His younger brother Ernst Bickel was a professor of classical philology.
Scientific work
Adolf Bickel's research focused on the neuroregulation of movement , the physiological basis of digestion , radiation biology as well as nutritional physiology and vitamin research . Among his students was the diabetologist Gerhardt Katsch , who received his doctorate from Bickel in 1912 with a thesis on the movement of the stomach .
