Adolf Blomeyer, son of a domain tenant, studied law at the Universities of Heidelberg and Marburg, where he became a member of the Corps Vandalia Heidelberg (1850) and Teutonia Marburg (1851). In 1852 he was promoted to Dr. jur. et phil. PhD . After a brief activity as a court trainee, he turned to agriculture. He completed a strict apprenticeship on his parents' lease and later on a neighboring farm. After several study trips, he leased an estate in Silesia . In 1860 he took over the Frankenhausen domain. From 1865 he taught as a professor of agriculture at the Agricultural Academy in Proskau .

In 1869, Blomeyer accepted a call to the University of Leipzig and founded an agricultural institute, which he headed until his death. Throughout his life he maintained close contacts with farmers. For many years, in addition to his work as a university professor, he was also an economic advisor for larger goods in Poznan and Pomerania. His advice on all questions of agriculture was particularly important in the Kingdom of Saxony. He was a master at combining scientific research results and practical knowledge from farming and presenting it in a number of books that were easy to understand. The focus of his teaching activities was in the field of crop production. In 1881 he was given the title of Privy Councilor.
