Adolf Christian Baumann

Adolf Christian Baumann (also Adolph Baumann ; born September 12, 1829 in Munich ; † February 5, 1865 ibid) was a German history painter and a member of the Association for Christian Art in Munich .

Life

Adolf Baumann studied from 1844 to 1848 at the Munich Royal Academy of Fine Arts . His teacher at the time, Johann von Schraudolph , who was commissioned by King Ludwig I to paint the Speyer Cathedral , took him to Speyer as an assistant . Until 1853 Baumann worked on the cathedral painting, which was done in the Nazarene style . He then received a grant from Ludwig I for a three-year study visit to Italy. After returning from Italy, Adolf Baumann remained connected to the Munich Art Academy. Among other things, he created four forest paintings for the then Bavarian National Museum ( old building ) and the picture "Christ on the Cross" for the Munich Isartor . His religious paintings include several altarpieces based on the model of the Munich painter Heinrich von Hess . In 1860 Baumann was one of the founding members of the Munich Association for Christian Art.
