Adolph Friedrich von Preen , also Adolf Friedrich von Preen (* 1623 in Güstrow ; † August 17, 1669 ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian, Mecklenburg-Güstrow church councilor and superintendent of the Stargard church district .

Live and act

Adolph Friedrich von Preen was a son of the ducal councilor Otto von Preen , heir to Wehnendorf (today part of Sanitz ) from the noble family von Preen , and his wife Dorothea, née von Bülow .

When his father died in 1631, his brother-in-law, District Administrator Andreas Bugenhagen, took him in and had him educated by private tutors. In the summer semester of 1638 and in the winter semester of 1640/41 he was matriculated at the University of Rostock . To deepen his studies he went to Holland and stayed in Leiden . He received requests to come to Zütphen and Deventer as a preacher, but went back to Mecklenburg and initially privatized in Rostock. He was appointed court and castle preacher in Güstrow and on January 10, 1658, he was appointed superintendent of the Stargard parish and pastor primarius in Neubrandenburg, ending a seven-year vacancy at this superintendent's position. His inauguration took place on January 12th by the Güstrow superintendent Janius in the presence of 42 preachers from the Land of Stargard. In 1662, Duke Gustav Adolf appointed him a councilor in clergy and church matters , with which he was responsible for visitations and ordinations in the (partial) duchy of Mecklenburg-Güstrow . He did a lot for the church visitation and made sure that the church assets ( aera ) , which had been neglected during the Thirty Years War , were restored through efficient debt collection.

Preen was married twice. First he married Adelheid Margarete von Plessen in Strelitz in 1658 . After her early death in 1663, he remarried. The name of his second wife is unknown; but in 1672 his widow was on record in great need.

As was customary at the time, Preen was buried on October 27, 1669 in St. Mary's Church in Neubrandenburg. The VD 17 has no fewer than 13 memorial papers on the occasion of his death and funeral.
